The kids arrived around 5:00 and played pick up sticks and Wii until we ate a spaghetti dinner. After eating, we took Aspen to the park. Cole and Scott worked with the dog and Ella and I tossed the Frisbee for a few minutes. When we got home we made s'mores for dessert and Cole gracefully smeared melted chocolate and marshmallow all over his face. (I wish I would have gotten a picture of him by the time he was done...unfortunately, my hands were also covered in goo at that point.)
The kids then went to bed to rest up for our early 4th of July plans. We woke up the next morning a little before 6 (the kids were already awake). We then all got ready, had breakfast and got together our things. Scott went outside to load Aspen into the car (around 7:00) and noticed that the passenger door was slightly ajar. When he went to close it he looked in and noticed that everything in the car was scattered and a couple of things were missing. Awesome. So, needless to say, we missed going to see the hot air balloons down in Provo while the police officer came and filed a report. Also missing from our car was a set of house keys that Scott had in the coin tray. Even though we feel pretty confident that our alarm system would protect our house, we had all of our locks changed this morning.
The more I think about the break in, the more frustrated I get. I'm almost certain that it was one of the punk kids that walk around our neighborhood with nothing better to do than to get themselves into trouble. It makes me so mad that parents do not know where their kids are or what their kids are doing! Granted, I have never been a parent, but I can assure you that if I ever caught my kids doing something like that...I would be the one turning them in.
Okay, now that I'm off my high horse...we finally made it down to the Provo Parade where Scott and I wore our "Vote for Randi on SYTYCD" t-shirts. For those of you who don't know, Randi is a contestant on So You Think You Can Dance and is sort of related (she is my cousin's cousin). She is an amazing dancer and all of the family wanted to support her by wearing t-shirts! (Everyone vote for Randi on Wednesday nights!) The kids got a couple handfuls of candy and Scott even got a waterbottle. Some of our favorite things were: the M-18 Hellcat from WWII, the entire Provo Mission (only in Utah), the big balloons, the Macey's float, Jack Sparrow impersonator, and riding on the golf carts with our t-shirts!
After the parade we stopped by my grandma and grandpa's house. Ever since I was little we have always gone to their house for a bbq on the 4th of July with the entire family (as far back as my grandpa's brothers and their families). Since Scott's family has their own traditions on the 4th, we haven't been in a couple of years. It was fun to go and see them for at least a few minutes!
By that time we were all ready for lunch and a nap. We went back to the house and had peanut butter and honey sandwiches before watching Beethoven 2 together. Scott got 'puppy hungry' which watching and hasn't quit talking about them ever since.
Rest was just what we needed before we head over to Nana and Papa's house to ride the slip 'n slide! We had such a fun time with the kiddos splashing and chasing them all over the place. (I am still so SORE!) Ella even mustered up the strength to go for a few runs. Shortly after we arrived everyone else came to join in the fun. Scott's parents were even nice enough to invite my parents and we enjoyed a wonderful dinner together.
After dinner we sat around and talked for awhile before piling into our cars and driving to up to Oakley for the rodeo...

I'm sorry to hear about the lock in. I hope the police can find the people that did it. For the rest of the 4th it sounded like you and Scott had tons of fun.
