To Driggs & Back

For our first anniversary I wanted to do something particularly special and so back in January when we were scheduling Scott's vacation days, I told him to take the Friday before off "just in case" we did something out of the ordinary.

About 3 weeks ago I came to the conclusion that since Scott planned our after wedding celebration last year (aka honeymoon) I would plan our anniversary getaway this year. (Side note: I'm just NOW realizing that planning the wedding was probably a lot more stressful than booking a hotel and flights.) Anyway, since work for Scott has been particularly stressful lately, I wanted to take him somewhere that he would love and could relax. I came to the conclusion that we would go to Driggs, Idaho--the place where Scott always tells me that he would love to move to. I had never been there before and wanted to see what the big fuss was all about.

I ended up booking our stay at the Teton Valley Cabins for Friday & Saturday night and kept it a complete surprise from Scott. (He knew we were going somewhere those nights but wasn't sure where...) For the three weeks leading up to our anniversary I did an incredible amount of planning. I scouted out hiking and fishing spots, planned our meals (the cabins where we were staying have little kitchenettes and in order to cut costs I decided to prepare all of our meals at home and then 'cook' while there), looked up local tourist attractions, and put together an 'itinerary' and 'packing list'.

We were 'scheduled' to leave on Friday morning around 8 a.m. but didn't quite get out of town that early due to a visitor who showed up at our house the night before--a stray dog. I couldn't just let this little guy wander around the streets all night so we kept him out back until morning when we could take him to a shelter. We were also delayed by Jiffy Lube taking over an hour to complete a lube, oil and filter on the car....ugh.

After tinkering around for what seemed like a very long time, we were off. Scott still didn't know where we were going and I barely knew (thank goodness for mapquest). My "turn left", "turn right", "keep going for 150 miles" worked until we were about 40 miles outside of our destination where the turnoff leads to only one place--Driggs.

We got to the cabins, checked in, unloaded all of our stuff and watched a little 24 on the laptop until dinner time. After our spaghetti dinner, we took Aspen to the park to play and then headed over to the local drive-in movie theater "The Spud" where we played Farkle in the back seat until the movie began. (Randomly enough while we were there I saw a fellow Dart who recognized me. She graduated the year after me. Of all places to run into someone from Kaysville, Utah!) We saw the movie "UP!" which we thought was hilarious...at least the parts I saw in between my snoozing. :) It started to rain...again...during the movie and continued to rain pretty hard. We decided to bail out before the second movie started to go back to the cabin and sleep.

Saturday morning (our anniversary!) was designated a fishing day. We woke up, took care of Aspen, ate breakfast, and went to the local fly shop to get some info and licenses. We then headed to Ashton to fish for the day on the [editing by Scott] Rivers. After a frustrating start, we finally seemed to get into a groove and the fun began. :) It down poured all day which made for some difficult circumstances, but we still caught a few fish and got nice and soaked in the process.

We drove home late that evening, showered, had Hawaiian haystacks for dinner and enjoyed for dessert the top of our wedding cake--mmm....slightly freezer burnt cheesecake!

Sunday morning we woke up and packed all of our things, ate breakfast, played a couple rounds of Farkle and checked out around 10:15. We made a few stops along the way but ended up arriving home around 5:00 p.m. After unloading our stuff we showered, got in our pjs and crawled into bed where we finished season 2 of 24 and ate dinner.

We had such a fun time away together with our cell phones turned off and just the two of us 'rekindling' the romance. ("We are rekindling? I wasn't aware anything went out!"--Scott)

Things We Always Want to Remember
*The rain stopped for about 5 minutes here and there...but other than that, it poured.
*Hydee loves drive-in theaters and acts like a 4 year old at Christmas when there.
*Scott caught the first fish on my new fishing pole on a fluke cast.
*The top of our wedding cake didn't look at all like the cake we had a year ago...didn't taste the same either.
*Hydee does not know how to use Aspen's shock collar and probably could have killed her if she had actually shocked her at 97...can dogs have guardian angels?
*Everything was so GREEN there and incredibly BEAUTIFUL.
*Although Scott assured me he packed everything on the 'packing list' he forgot a jacket and had short sleeves the whole time.
*Bohemian Rhapsody was one of the best songs ever made. We definitely know how to rock that song.
*We love each other more now than when we were married.
*Scott had his first ever Hawaiian Haystack on our anniversary.
*Farkle, Farkle and more Farkle.
