Idol Out

Scott and I have been really into American Idol this season. I've been holding out sharing my opinions about it on the blog, but I figure I will share a couple of thoughts since it is ending this week.

First of all, lets start with Adam. Adam has an AMAZING voice. I don't care what anyone says, he does. Many people have said that they think he is 'cocky' and 'arrogant' but I've been watching him throughout the entire competition and he has not been either of those things. Every time the judges would compliment his performances he would say 'thank you' and sometimes 'thank you so much' that was it. Does that sound cocky to you? Oh, okay...just checking.

Of all the contestants, I think Adam talks the least. He just gets up there, generally has a great performance, and sits in the wings. This does not mean he is arrogant! Maybe he is shy. Maybe he is not wanting to be involved in all the drama. Just let the man be for heaven's sake!

As far as his sexual orientation goes, I think people are making far too BIG of a deal about it. He has never COME OUT and said that he lives an alternative lifestyle on the show and so, in my opinion, it should have nothing to do with it. I mean, how many of you--or your parents :)--have ever listened to Elton John? Are you saying that you can't like an individual's voice because they practice a different lifestyle? I definitely do not support alternative lifestyles, but I can't discredit the talent of those individuals who MIGHT. So--deal with it.

Next up is Kris. Kris seems like a really nice guy that is just plain scared every time he walks on stage. Granted, I would be terrified getting up there (especially since I can't sing) so I can't hold that against him. Scott and I think he gives off a little bit of a Jason Mraz feel and we like it! He is also really cute...an added bonus for getting the votes of those 13 year old girls out there. (Maybe that is counteracted by Adam getting the votes of 13 year old boys?...just a thought...okay, done with the gay jokes.)

I totally agree with Simon when he says that Kris needs to get more confidence. I mean, humility is an attractive quality in a performer, but Kris honestly seemed shocked that he made it into the top two. I just want him to be confident in his ability to perform and show that his hard work is paying off and that he deserves to be there. Kris is awesome.

Danny was the most recent send off. When the competition first started I was a HUGE Danny fan. I really wanted him just blow through the competition (similar to the way Adam has...). I began to lose interest in Danny mid-way through when others (Allyson, Kris, Adam, and Matt) started stepping up their game. It wasn't until last week when he was sent home that I realized how much of a Gokey fan I actually was. It totally bummed me out.

I really loved listening to the songs that Danny performed because they all had a story behind them. I felt like he carried the memory of his late wife throughout the competition and incorporated it into his performances. He was amazing.

All this being said, I was really hoping that Kris and Danny would be in the top two. Are you thinking "WHAT!?!" Reason: I know that Adam is going to have a ton of success whether he wins American Idol, or not. Kris and Danny will likely be very successful as well. But, what I was really hoping for, was to see how the competition would have been different without the 'Adam Influence'. Because he has been so original, I think it alters the way all of the other contestants choose and arrange their songs. I would really like to have seen what would have been brought to the table if Adam weren't there.

So, my picks.
Who do I want to win? Kris
Who do I think will win? Adam
Who do I like to watch American Idol with? Scott
...and he is really all that matters. :)

I can hardly stand to watch or listen to Adam with his tongue sticking out! I personally think that all the feigned humility is for the camera. He has been a stage performer for many years, and I think it is all just part of his "act." Sorry to disagree with you, Hyd. I miss Danny, too, but I hope Kris takes the whole thing!

Hyders ~ One thing for sure, Adam is NOT shy. He has been a performer since he was a child. He is and ACTOR! That said, I agree with you on his originality. I think Kris has a good dose of creativity, too. Most of the songs that Adam has done have involved a lot of screaming and tongue sticking out, so I just can't stand to watch him and fast forward him out. Bottom line, I don't purchase Aerosmith or Led Zepplin, so I wouldn't purchase Adam. However, I like the James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg feel of Kris, and I do own CDs from these folks, so he is my preference. I went to a Dan Fogelberg concert and on stage was a grand piano, an acoustic guitar, and Dan. It was awesome. Kris could do the same. I liked Danny, too. He had a few weeks where he was a little sketchy, and I think that hurt him. I, too, hoped beyond hope that it would be a Kris and Danny show down, but such is life....
