100 Books!

A few weeks ago I asked Bridger to set a reading goal.  Since he is not super familiar with the whole "goal" concept, I recommended that we read 100 different books and make a chart to put stickers on every time we read one.  Bridger thought that sounded like fun so I asked him how many books he would like to try and read each day.  He told me 5 and so we set his goal to read 100 different books in 20 days.

There was a lot of reading going on at our house!  We usually try to read a couple of stories at bedtime each night but I was surprised at how much effort it took to get in the 5 books every day--life just gets busy!  We were also trying to read real stories, not just picture books with few words.  This worked for the most part with a few exceptions like "Goodnight, Moon" which Bridger insisted was a 'real story'.

There were many nights Bridger reminded us (past his bedtime) that we needed to read more books and, even though we wanted to tell him to go to bed and forget about it, we did try to help him achieve his goal by reading with him.

Most of the books we read were from our home library, others were checked out from the public library.  All in all, we read 100 different books together in 19 days! (Yes, he finished a day early!)  I was so proud of Bridger for sticking to it.  I feel like reading with him has really expanded his vocabulary and helped him learn many concepts like cause and effect.

Way to go, Buddy!  We are proud of you!
