Celebrating Dad's Day

Because both of our families live so close, we get the never-ending task of deciding whose family we are spending which holiday with. On Mother's Day we hit both houses and it spread us pretty thin so we scrapped that idea for Father's Day and decided to celebrate with my (Hydee) dad on Monday (the day after).

Last year on Father's Day we were on our way back from Jamaica so this year was our first official celebration of Father's Day as a married couple. Aspen was so excited to give her 'dad' his present! After church while Scott was upstairs changing, I tied it around her neck and she sat and waited ever so patiently for Scott come come down the stairs and open it. Unfortunately it was only a card with the promise of a present because it had not yet come in the mail. Luckily, it came the next day and Scott loved it! ($50.00 gift card to his favorite store...what's not to love?)

We then went over to Scott's parents house where we celebrated with Dad #2--Scott's dad. Aspen also had a present in store for Papa and so in the same fashion as before, she presented it to him herself. He was then left to search the yard for the present she gave him which resembled several other presents she has left in his yard. :)

After a wonderful dinner prepared by Scott's mom, we all sat down to chit chat and open the presents/cards. In addition to Aspen's gift, Scott's Dad was given an ice bucket, a new spinning lure and a cards. We had such a fun night watching Henry play dress-ups, seeing Jack finally walk around, and enjoying one another's company.

Monday night we had my side of the family over for our FHE/Father's Day celebration. It was the first time that we had seen Patrick and Megon since they got back from their honeymoon so it was especially nice to have the whole clan together. We started off with dinner followed by an FHE lesson given by yours truly. Dad then opened presents.

While I was making our 'healthy' dessert of Orange Julius (my Dad is off of desserts for a year!) the rest of the group started a ping-pong tournament in the garage. Scott & I ended up placing 2nd in the doubles tournment with Dad and Mom taking the title. (We actually won at first but they called for a rematch and beat us 'best out of three'...we'll just let them think they won...haha) Thanks to everyone for driving out to our place! We had such a fun time!

{Happy Father's Day, Dad!}
