New Toy

A couple of days ago I used my new Bosch for the first time! As was previously stated, my sweet parents gave this to me for graduation.

What did I make for my first go-round with Baxter the Bosch? Chocolate chip cookies of course!

And yet, despite having such a fantastic tool at my very fingertips, it cannot make up for my stupidity. I forgot the vanilla. Yep, forgot the vanilla and tried to add it at the end which of course didn't work. So, I ended up with not-so-great cookies that are perfect only when soaked in milk. Oops.

I've been wanting one of these machines forever. And to be honest, I never thought I would be lucky enough to own one. Why? Reasons: #1-Very expensive. #2-I'm a wannabe baker. #3-When your hubby can't eat cookies, cakes and all that jazz, there is really no need for the mixing machine of the universe...and yet, I thrive on those things so gimme, gimme!

Short, slightly off-topic story:
If any of you have had one of my mom's homemade cinnamon rolls than you have truly experienced a little piece of heaven. Mmm...just thinking about them makes my mouth water. She used to make them all the time (only for her husband and two children to devour 3 pans full in one day). I would sit at the bar stool and watch her make them. Over and over she would tell me how to make them, the temperature of the liquids to complement the yeast and how to roll them out just right. Every time she told me I just kept thinking, "I know, Mom! I've seen this a million times!" So...fast forward several years.

I'm sitting in my house one day and I realize that it is my next door neighbor's birthday. Trying to be a good neighbor, I decide I should probably do something for her. Ah! Mom's cinnamon rolls! So, I pull out the recipe and realize that I of course I don't have any of the ingredients. So, I make a quick store run (which included about 3 phone calls to my mom) and then I was back home to rock the kitchen with those fantastic rolls. Four MORE calls to mom later, I had in front of me what appeared to my mom's rolls...uncooked. Phew.

So, I set them to rise, I baked them, and I even frosted them. Nope. Nothing like Mama's. In fact, they were ridiculous. Now, don't get me wrong, they tasted...okay. But, when you've had the Celestial kingdom, you just can't go back to the Telestial. Apparently I should have been paying a little bit more attention during all of my training sessions.

End of off-topic story.

Now that I have my fancy-pants machine, my new goal is to master those darn cinnamon rolls. This time I'm going to be a little smarter though...I'm inviting mom over. :)

It is amazing how you can fool your kids when they are young. Oh, the cinammon rolls were homemade, but I think their taste buds must be so underdeveloped at that age that they love everything you make. Maybe Heavenly Father made it that way on purpose. I'm glad you have such fond memories of my cinammon rolls, Hydee, and I'm happy to come over any time to relive the memories! Love, Mom
