Changes

A few weeks ago I got that call. Yes, that call from a member of the bishopric asking if he could meet with Scott & me. I was bummed. I was perfectly happy with my calling as a laurel advisor and really was not looking forward to a change. In the back of my mind I kept telling myself, "Maybe they are just going to release me from my other calling {girls camp director}."

I must say I was a little surprised when later that evening the bishop and his first counselor both showed up on my doorstep. We chit-chatted in the living room for a little while and then they asked me how I liked working with the young women. I told them that I really enjoyed it {hoping that my enthusiasm would sway them from changing me to a calling I had already pre-determined I was going to hate}. ;) As it turns out, they did end up releasing me from my calling as a laurel advisor {and as camp director!} but gave me another calling with the young women. {yay!}

However, that is not the reason I'm telling this story. The best part is what happened next...

But first...a little background...Scott has been the Ward Mission Leader in our ward for almost 3 years. He is gone to meetings or home visits almost every night of the week and Sundays are spent home teaching the 4 families he has been assigned as well as other meetings. It has certainly kept him busy over the past few years and considering the fact that I've had 5...yes, 5...callings in the past 3 years, he has been especially anxious for a change. {I also don't think it helps that I frequently remind him that he has been our Ward Mission Leader longer than he served his full-time mission...} Anyway, back to our visit with the bishop/1st counselor...

After I accepted the new calling they gave me a few instructions and then turned to Scott and asked, "So...Scott....how long have you been serving as Ward Mission Leader?" {Our bishopric was just put in about a month ago}...[Scott perks up, sits up a little taller and a smile appears] "Almost three years!" he says enthusiastically! "Oh. Well from what we hear, you are doing an amazing job! Keep up the good work!"

At this point I thought I was going to explode from trying to hold in my laughter. Scott slouched back into the couch and as soon as Scott shut the door behind them as they walked out a few minutes later, I couldn't help but burst out into a fit of giggles. All Scott kept saying is, "As soon as he asked that I really thought...", "Three years is a long time...", "Are you serious?" [my giggles continue...]

Well, that was a couple of weeks ago. And, as it turns out, last Sunday we were called into the Stake office. This time, it was Scott's turn. {Finally!} They asked Scott to serve as the 1st counselor in the Elder's Quorum Presidency. Though this calling will still keep him as busy as ever, we are looking forward to these changes and the new opportunities that our family has to serve.

Congrats to both of you on your new callings. . . Is it just because I'm his sister that I could totally picture that whole exchange. It made me laugh ;)
