My Husband is More Manly Than Yours...

A couple of weekends ago Scott was invited to go hunt geese on some private property in Northern Utah. He was so excited to have this opportunity since their are generally more birds on private land. After loading his gear and prepping we didn't get to bed til 12:30 only for him to wake up just 2 short hours later. (Hunters are crazy like this...I need my sleep!) He went to pick up his brother and together they drove in the wee hours of the morning to the property.

The morning was rather eventful. Scott's brother gracefully spilled an entire McDonalds Coke on him which resulted in Scott's pants being soaked and Scott accidentally pulled out his insulin pump tubing. No bueno. (For those of you who don't know, Type 1 diabetics require a certain amount of insulin as a baseline. Whether they eat anything or not, they need insulin so that their blood glucose level does not spike. Eating anything with carbohydrates would obviously magnify the problem.) So, Scott was pretty worried about that. Even a couple of hours without insulin results in a blood glucose spike and a very sick Scott. {Thankfully} He informed those he was hunting with of the problem and was monitoring his blood sugar very closely.

As they went throughout the morning they only saw a few birds until finally....some birds came into their spread and they were able to 'take 'em'. Scott and his cousin, Matt, were shooting out of the same blind and both were able to shoot their limit of geese (3 birds each). Aspen, who has never retrieved geese before, did beautifully and Scott was able to take some video of her on his iPhone which even I was impressed with. :)

{Eat THAT dog trainer who failed Aspen in hunting school!}

Scott was especially excited about this banded bird he shot. {Banded birds are sort of like trophies for waterfowl hunters...} This is the second banded bird that Scott has shot.

Meanwhile, Scott was starting to feel really sick since his blood sugar kept rising. They decided to call it quits in the late morning/early afternoon and stop by a pharmacy where Scott picked up some syringes. {Genius idea, sweetie.} After a couple of hours Scott's blood sugar is more 'in control' and he is as happy as ever. Phew. {If you are interested in hearing the hour long version of this story...please contact Scott directly...}

Then--last weekend Scott and his brother, Tyler, went to an undisclosed {read secret} location where they camped for the weekend and hunted ducks. It turned out to be one of the best times they have ever had. They each shot their limit (7 ducks per person) on day 2 and saw thousands of birds. Despite the cold temps and rainy weather, Scott & Aspen had an awesome time. Those crazy hunters...

Meanwhile, I was back home with my mom who came to stay with me for the weekend since my dad was in California. We had a lot of fun talking, shopping, eating and taking care of this little guy.

All in all...this hunting season is turning out to be great...for all of us. ;)

That rocks, so do you eat what he shot or is more for just trophies? Bridger is seriously the cutest boy.
