The Warm Front Before the Storm...

A couple of weeks ago, Scott and I decided that since I was going to be starting school the day after Labor Day we needed to do something fun for the long weekend before I had to hit the books again. Because I had to work on Saturday, it threw a kink in our plans but we worked around it and here is what we did!

Friday I had the day off and so I went down to Provo to get some books, catch up with my friend Tara who has been in Jerusalem for the past couple of months, and reacquaint myself with the evil of Provo/Orem traffic. Scott has been working on a rotation in Park City this past week (and for the next 5 weeks) which made it easy for him to come down Provo Canyon to meet me in the land of Happy Valley. After meeting up with my cousin, Sarah, we drove to Dwight's house where we all loaded into his car and drove down to Utah Lake for an evening of wakeboarding. I must make a side note here that Scott had been in his work clothes and I had failed to pack a t-shirt and flip flops for him to wear. I had also forgotten my swimming suit so luckily I was able to borrow one from my cousin! (Thanks a bunch!) I really don't know what I was thinkin' when I was getting ready! Anyway, Scott wanted to take Aspen out on the boat with us and so she tagged along too. I was jealous of everyone else's skills. I was pretty rusty after not going for two years! Nonetheless, we had a great time! After we got off the lake we were all starving and decided we had better take a trip to Scott's favorite hamburger place. It is called "EZ Burgers" (I think) and is on State Street in Orem about 2 blocks North of University Parkway. I'm certain that we will not be able to make any more trips to Orem without stopping by this particular fast food place. :) We got home, both of us exhausted, and definitely not ready for what was in store the next day.

Saturday we woke up and packed some stuff for our camping trip which we were planning to leave for as soon as I got home from work at 3:00. While I got ready for work, Scott went and picked up some pigeons from a guy he found on KSL Classifieds so that he could use them to train the dog. He met up with his dad and Tyler to train the dog. When they were done with their training session, Scott went out...somewhere...where he could get some 'mallard' ducks to train the dog with. This lady (who he also found on KSL) was giving them away. When he got there, they were not mallards but he decided to take them anyway. He got home and put them in our backyard. I was getting home from work at this time and frantically trying to get everything ready for our camping trip. I had purchased some groceries and was trying to pack my clothes, food, and the rest of the gear stuff we need. Scott helped me do that, set up a 'home' out back for the ducks and took a shower. Just as we thought we were all ready to go, Scott decided we needed music to listen to and so he went back in to load music on the iPod while I took some stuff over to our RS President that she was going to hand out for me. We finally got on the road and drove all the way up to Idaho where we used the headlights to set up a tent on some property that Scott's parents own. At about 2:00 a.m. we decided that where we were camping was probably not the best place and so we took down the tent and got in the car. I decided that we needed a better place to sleep then the front seats of the car and so we did some rearranging to create a space big enough for maybe a 5 year old to take a decent nap. We both crammed ourselves into the tiny space in the back of Scott's Montero which resulted in neck cramping, sore backs and not much sleep. We were very grateful the next morning when we were able to set up a decent camp and even more grateful when we got to sleep laying flat in the tent the next night. The day after our crazy night (Sunday) we spent driving in the car to all of Scott's favorite spots around Ashton. He took me to see some giant fish, lots of waterfalls at different locations, into Yellowstone National Park (because I'd never been there) and to his favorite spot in the world. It was so fun to spend the day driving together and enjoying all of the beautiful things around us. Each of the places we went reminded us of all the things we have yet to enjoy doing with each other and I think we are both so excited about all that awaits us! When we got back to camp that evening it started raining which made having dinner a little more difficult but we managed to survive it. I think we were both so tired from our lack of sleep that we didn't mind when the weather forced us to head to our tent at 7:00 and we fell asleep by 7:30. (Just call us the geriatrics couple!)

The next morning, Monday, we tried to go fishing in the morning but my fishing pole broke on my second cast so that ended the fun pretty quickly. Instead, we decided to pack up all of our stuff and go shoot guns for a while. Scott let me shoot his pistol at a glass bottle which I blew to pieces and we also shot the air rifle and pellet guns at trees. Scott is almost as good of a shot as I am! ;) When we were done there I slept most of the drive home so Scott was a trooper and drove with the radio for companionship. (He probably thought it was better than the "teenie bopper book" I was reading to him on the way up.) It felt oh so nice to get home, put everything away, shower, and snuggle up on the couch for an episode of Friends before crawling into our comfy bed for the night. I loved as I was brushing my teeth and Scott was crawling into bed he shouted..."Oh baby! Why do we even go camping when we have a bed like this?!" It sure is nice to get away for a couple of days but it feels so wonderful to be home too!

It sounds like you had a wonderful trip! I am so glad that you were able to get away together. You can teach a lot to us old fogies! Hang in there with school. It will over with before you know it. We know you can do it!

crazy kids. you'll have to explain to me why you set up the tent and then took it down to sleep in the car.

we're glad you're back! knowing that you were camping in a beautiful place w/o us made me acutely aware that you were gone. hmm...if that makes sense. what can i say. it's late on a long day.
